Excel error message

My brother gets this error message when he opens up Excel 2000:

“Microsoft Excel can’t use the Autocorrect lists. Microsoft Excel cannot install the necessary files due to Windows install error 87. The parameter is incorrect ”

He has tried toreinstall excel and office to no avail.

Should he completely delete Office and reinstall (yawns widely) or is there a fix for error 87??
