Excel Overload

A very strange thing is happening on my Windows 2000 PRO system running Excel XP PRO, when I try to run excel I get an out of memory error message appearing so I checked my processes tab within the task manager, and apart from system and system idleevery other process is EXCEL.exe and excel.exe, I’ve tried clicking on End Process but I receive the “operation could not be completed, Access is denied” error message. I can’t see any of the other processes that would normally be there.
