Excel XP

Iim having a problem with sorting. My colum “A” is NAME and I have the names in first/last order. I need to sort the worksheet by last name. Without having to re-type it, is there a way to sort by LAST name? I used to have use Word Perfect, and I could just sort by cell 1, second word. How do I do it in Excel?
