Exchange message store is about 107gb?

I am running Microsoft Exchange 2000 and my message store is 107Gb in size. I am have two locations linked with 100MB laser and two exchange server, one in each location. the response time for Opening email slow. Would the size of my message store be a problem in this case or any suggestions on this would be appreciated.
