Getting Started With Bulk e-mail

I am interested in sending bulk e-mails and need to learn the process of how to go about setting that up, what software is available, tutorials – anything that will give me information on what to do to accomplish this. I have tried searching the internet, but perhaps I am not using the correct terms. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
