Has my email probram been hijacked

I’ve received two failure notices for email messages which I’ve never sent. They don’t show in my sent folder and I don’t recognize the email addresses.
One possibility is my email program has been seized by another agent and is used to remotely send email message traffic.
How do I find out if this is the case?
Are there any programs out there to check?
