Help with the IF Function in Excel

Hi, I am preparing a Tax Calculator using Excel but can’t get the formula right. Here’s an example:

Gross annual income:
Below 1000 should be tax free
1000-2000 should pay 220
2000-3000 should pay 330
……..
above 10,000 should pay 1100 etc, etc

I tried using the IF Function but still received errors. Urgent help is welcomed.
