how to enable outlook 2000 to resolve a name

I am running Outlook 2000 on XP.
WHen I start to type a name in the “TO” box, it will not detect the name for me. Does anyone know how to turn this feature on? I know there is a keyboard command of CNTL-K but I need it to do so automatically. THanks
