Hyperlink in Outlook

We use a thin client for our users. The problem I am having is with users hypelinks in there E-Mails and elsewhere ie excel. When they click on these links they get nothing. I have changed the setting in IE to make sure it uses itself as the default browser and also checked what the URL is opened with and this is all fine. Got it to work by opening IE first then the links works in Outlook, though this is not ideal. If anyone knows a workaround this would be really helpful.
