IE 5.x periodically stops working

by shanghai sam . Updated 24 years, 4 months ago

This is our first installation of Windows 2000 Pro workstations (100) that we placed in an NT 4.0 environment.

We are not running DNS and used ntconfig.pol for security settings until we convert to AD and GPOs this summer.

IE will periodicallystop working, it does not lock-up nor does it lock-up the system. A NetMon showed that (while the browser is affected) it does not place an HTML GET packet on the LAN.

We thought it may have something to do with the Temp Internet Files (thinkingit was already in cache), or IE security settings (but the defaults are in place), or DNS (since we are not running it), or policies from ntconfig.pol (since they were not the 2000 flavor). But no luck to date.

The problem occurs with systems using WSProxy client and those that are not. Sometimes closing IE and re-opening fixes it, sometines logging off and on and other times restarting the system is the only cure.

If anyone hase encountered this problem before I would appreciate a response.

Thank-you.
