IE problem

I am running Windows XP. I was using IE6 and started recieving this message when I was closing out a web site. “IE has encountered a problem and needs to close.” Then asks if I want to report the problem. When you select either report or not report it imediately wipes out every window you have open. Installed IE7. Same probem but now freezes and I have to use end program to unfreeze the screen. If anyone would be kind enough to help me solve this problem, it would be greatly appreciated.
