insert txt in email, keep old txt & fmat

When the itemsend trigger in Outlook 2003 occurs, I would like to insert into the outgoing message a web link. All attempts I have made so far have resulted in either (a) the message body being replaced or (b) the formatting of the message body being set to text. How do I insert text into an existing message body and preserve the formatting
