Invalid configuration registry key

I was trying to install a printer through a usb port on my computer and it starts to go through the process just fine and starts to download the drivers only to finish by saying device may not work properly then under that it says configuration registry key is invalid. Then when I check under the device manager it has a black exclamation mark in a yellow field over that usb port. This is not the first time I have had usb issues with this computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
