ISP Virus Protection& Virus Protection

After installing Norton 2001 update I checked E-MAIL
STATUS and it does indicates that there is no e-mail
programs being protected. The ISP’s involved are MSN and Compuserve. Do they protect mail on their end? Do I need a Virus Program too?
