I use two image editing programs — Micrografx Picture Publisher (1995 edition) and ArcSoft Photo Studio (which came as part of the software with my Canon LIDE Scanner).
I like Micrografx because it gives the percentage size of the image, so that it is easy to estimate how much to reduce an image for a particular application. ArcSoft does not have this feature, but reduces image size with an acceptable degree of distortion.
Both programs will readily read images scanned in, but in many instances of photos copied from emails for example, Micrografx either will not show the image until I have replaced the original jpg image through ArcSoft via “Save As,” or gives an Illegal Operation message and closes down.
I am running Windows 98 SE on this particular computer. This problem applies to jpg images only.
