Line Count in Word 2000

Is there a way to get Word to just count the lines that have text on them?
I know it will do a line count, but it counts every line including the blank ones. My client gets paid by the line, so she only wants the text ones counted. She used to use Word Perfect and had a macro set up to do that. Does anyone know how and what the code would be to set up that type of macro in Word? Thanks.
