Linked Table Manager – When to refresh

I am going to upgrade several access databases from 97 to 2000. They seem to open and convert OK but I am not sure what to do with the linked table manager. If I don’t run it what happends. Should the tables be refreshed often? What exactly is it for other than an easy way to change the location of a linked table. Do I need to run it even if the table location has not changed
