Merging to MS word 97

Hi, I have an appilcation that allows me to merge patient data to msword through a template. No matter what template I use when i try to merge from this application to word it merges with the template on page 1 and the template with the merged fields on page 2. I only want page 2 to merge. Its really frustrating and I need to delete page 1 and bring page 2 up. I have other machines that merge fine but its one machine that plays up. Its using office 97 and windows 98se. Please help i have tried reinstalling office but to no avail. What could this be?
