Message error from 0387:08ff.

I have an intel 166 processor with 96 megs of memory, 8 meg video card and 5 gig hard drive.? I am trying to reinstall windows 98 SE on a formatted drive.? I started setup and it starts installing and half way through it comes up with an error:? standard mode: invalid DPMI Return from 0387:08ff.? The machine stays in a black screen with (-) blk. and nothing happens.? I tried rebooting and installing again and it goes back to same error.? I changed memory and tried again same thing.?

Can you tell me what is causing this and how to get around this.

All of this was working before I had a software corruption so I decided to reinstall windows.
