Microsoft Query

I have created a sql query with table variables when I run the SQL in microsoft query it brings back the data, however when I try to return the data to excel it drops all the information & when I try to edit the query the SQL statement is blank.

1. Is my syntax incorrect for MS Query or
2. Does ms query not support table variables

Attatched below is the start and end of table variable statement

create table #SessionsByRegion
( Region varchar(20),
PractitionerType varchar(20),
Session int,
Exams int
)

Insert into #SessionsByRegion

drop table #SessionsByRegion
