I am aa administrator of a document server where all the users store MS Word, Excel , Powerpoint and other files in this server for sharing purpose.The problem begins when some of the users try and open some of the files either saved by the same user or different users. before the file can be open, a pop-up message will appear as follows:
“Microsoft Word or Excel
This file is not in a recognizable format
….”
After you click “OK”, the word file can be open but all the wordings appear as square boxes. In the case of Excel, the file is open but all the cells become “Blank”
My concern is whether the files are attacked by viruses? Where do the virus reside? Server or individual local PC? At the moment, the server and all the PCs are protected by “Trend-Micro” antivirus (Online update”.
