MS IE Has Encountered a Problem Error

I have a laptop that was freshly reimaged last week with Windows 2000, running IE 5.5. A little over a week later when trying to open IE, message, “Microsoft Internet Explorer has encountered a problem & needs to close”, error appears and you cannotget past this. I ran requested fix, o2ksrla.exe from MS website, but it says I already have current version.
