MS Publisher file size

When Im working on ms publisher and I add a jpg photo to a publication, the publisher file size jumps up from KB size to MB size, Example, a file that was 750KB is added to a pubisher file that was 380kb, now the combine size of the
publication isover 10MB, how is that posible.
