MS Word 2000 Error

I have an older laptop running Windows 98 Second Edition and when using MS Word 2000 the following error pops up when trying to work in a document:

“This program has performed an illegal operation and will shut down.”

Detail info: Winword hasperformed a general protection fault in module HPFWIN23.dll at 0016:00008652.

Norton 2000 (7.6) is installed which I did disable to see if that would help – no luck! I updated all the current updates available for the computer, and still cannot use Word because this error continuously pops up.

I did uninstall and re-install MS Ofc 2000 Pro but this didn’t fix the problem.

Any suggestions????
