Notify to External (AOL) email (Exch)

With Exchange 2000 and Outlook 2000, is there a way to send a notification only to an external (AOL) email account indicating that email has arrived in the Exchange mailbox? For security reasons we do not want to forward emails to external accounts. We just want to notify the AOL user that email has arrived in thier corporate Exchange mailbox.
