NT4 Domain to 2003 Domain

I finally got the ok to upgrade our domain to 2003 from NT4. Wanted some opinions on the path i should take and what would work best. I’ve heard many horror stories of upgrading the existing domain so I doubt i’ll take that path. I really want to create a new domain name anyway. Any thoughts? Any help greatly appreciated. Send links with instructions too!
