OE freezes when openning audio attach

Hi,
System with 128mb running W ME. IE V 5.50 and OE V 5.50. When An e-mail comes in and I try and open the attachment and it is a sound bite the pc freezes. The system sounds work fine and I am able to play music of a cd. I uninstalled the driversand let the system reinstall them and it still locks. I have tried more than one attachment with the same results.
