Office XP File Open Dialog Box

Office 2000 (and I believe office 97) had a wonderful feature. Whenever a partial filename was typed in the File Open box, the list of documents in the current directory would be narrowed down to filenames matching the search. Office XP has done away with that function, and I have failed to find any way to bring it back. Any ideas?
