Outlook 2000 Printer Icon disabled

When you Microsoft Outlook, the print icon and file, print options are enabled.

As soon as you open any message, the print icon is disabled. However, if you right click on the message, you will be able to print the message.

My question is why are the print icons greyed-out when you open the message ?
