Outlook 2002 can’t find servers

We have a small LAN which uses the server to connect everyone to email. The server runs on NT and most of the workstations run on Windows 98. We just purchased a new computer with XP professional. I configured Outlook the same as all of the other work stations but when I try to send or receive messages I get an error message (0x000CCCOD) saying it is unable to find email server and when I run a test in the account settings I get error messages saying it cannot find the POP3 or SMTP servers. We do not use Exchange. Any idea how I can get connected?
