Outlook attachment sending problems

I’m having problems sneding attachments. If I send a jpeg attachement it is recieved as multiple emails and the attachment has .dat on the end. I’ve tried setting it to HTML for mail format but the end result is the same. There is a microsoft issue but it is not related to my problem.
