Outlook column fields issue

I have a user who stated that their column width in outlook keeps changing unexpectedly. He has preview pane on as well as auto preview. The date of the email will eventually be off screen because his subject field width increases. i was going to run the switch “outlook /cleanviews” but i didn’t want to reset his settings without seeing if there was another option.
