Outlook out of office assistant

Ive got a user with a windows 2000 PC running outlook 2000 in an exchange 5.5 environment. When he enables his out of office assistant, no one gets a reply. Outlook knows it’s on however, as it asks him if he wants to switch it off when he opens outlook. Any ideas??
