We are currently in a heated discussion on whether to implement Outlook with the exchange service and .pst files and go corporate, or to implement it with IMAP. We have 1 exchange server that sits at headquarters in FL. We have outlying offices inserveral different states that all have dedicated circuits to headquarters. The speeds range from 256KB to T1. I understand that with IMAP all info is stored on the server until someone reads their email or d/ls an attachment. With corporate and .pst files, the email is d/l’d right away. Now, question is, with the exchange service, does that maintain a continuous connection with the exchange server? What about IMAP, if you leave outlook open, does that maintain a continuous connection withthe exchange server. We are looking for the lowest bandwidth usage possible. If outlook with exchange service does maintain a continuous connection, is there a way around it? I would love to go to corporate so that everyone can use the global address list. Any and all help is appreciated.
