I recently upgraded from Outlook 98 to Outlook XP. I had dozens of e-mail rules working perfectly in Outlook 98.
However, in Outlook XP (and I verified the same problem in Outlook 2000), the rules seem to be “broader” in coverage than they used to be in 98.
For example, in Outlook 98, my rules based on contact names ONLY worked on the specific contacts/e-mails they were created with. So, If I defined a rule for the contact “John”, whose e-mail was “john@doe.com”, ONLY e-mails from john@doe.com would trigger the rule.
In Outlook 2000/XP, I frequently find that ANY contact name with only its FIRST name being “John”, REGARDLESS of its last name/e-mail would trigger the same rule. The result? I get several e-mail going to multiple folders at the same time, and all (but one) wrong!
Does anyone have a solution or workaround for this, so that my rules get back to work as they used to do in Outlook 98? I mean, other than manually replacing EVERY contact info in the rules by its e-mail, which would be a daunting task.
As of now, I’ve added “stop processing more rules” to the end of every rule, so at least I can narrow the errors to a few rules, but there are a few rules still missing the point.
