Phantom Word 2003 when in outlook 2003

When I set Word 2003 to be my outlook 2003 e-mail editor I get this phantom word window that appears. If I do a new message and hit send it appears as though it never sent the message. If you minimize and then maximize it then all that appears is this phantom window…. As soon as I open Outlook it is also just sitting there. PLEASE HELP ME!!!
