POP3 connector in Exchange 2000

Exchange 2000 on W2K Small Business Server. Newbie sysadmin, drafted because I know a bit about software, slowly figuring things out. I’m having trouble setting up POP3 connectors, not able to retrieve email from the ISPs, event 12052 (error occurred during POP3 transaction) being logged.

I can telnet to the ISP using SMTP but not using POP3 – I get the “Could not open a connection to host on port 110: Connect failed” message.

Netstat shows port 110 is Listening, same as port 25 for SMTP.

Application event log – every time I do a manual retrieve, event ID 1002 (pop3 connector started shutdown sequence) gets logged immediately before event ID 12052 (error occurred during pop3 transaction). Sounds like something that shouldn’t be happening????
