Print problem in Word 2000

I cannot print using the file, menu. The program just freezes. It doesn’t seem to matter what I am trying to print, how big etc. I can print just fine using the print icon on the tool bar but not the file, menu method. Of course, using the tool bar I can’t change the print properties so I need to figure this out. Thanks for your assistance in this matter.
