Receiving of email attachment

I colleague sent me an attachment via email and I did not receive it, I just receive the message. He is using Outlook 98 while I am using Outlook Express. He also sent the attachment to another colleague who received the file but it lost its original form in that she cannot open the Word document. She is using webmail program. Are idea why this is happening?
