Reinstall Win 10 after Hard Drive failure post “free” upgade period?

Does anyone have any idea as to how someone will be able to reinstall an “upgraded for free” Win 10 to their system after July 2016? Yes, I know about image backups, but what if “they” don’t have one or it’s corrupted.
