I’ve been asked to come up with a method for a user to synchronize his files (Mydocuments, .PST Outlook folder, and a couple other) from one desktop machine to another, over the internet, perhaps while he is sleeping.
I have a very active user, who 50 percent of the time works outside the office, and travels all around the country. It’s very possible he may want to keep all 3 computers synchronized. (2 desktops, 1 laptop).
All have WindowsXP Pro installed, and currently I have VPN, and Remote Desktop configured at the office to allow him in.
What I want is a software to do the synchronizing for him, I realize I could incorporate briefcase *but*, I want a more sophisticated software, to take the “thinking” away from the user, as to which is more current. This is large amounts of data to synchronize, just his PST in outlook alone probably stores at least 3000 emails (and he wants it that way).
Has anyone with experience using remote synchronizing software, got some recommendations? Has anyone used Laplink Gold? Any other titles you might recommend? What are the shortcomings? I would prefer a software which will allow me to assign a TCP port for the connection, so that potentially I can assign different sychronization ports to different users, and using port forwarding on my internal router, I would forward those ports to the appropriate desktops.
