Restore sound

I used the restore disk to restore the sound on a Gateway GP6-400 (WIN98). Now I can’t get online. I can use outlook express to check the email, but when I try to browse the net I get this message: cyber crash, access violation. I only restored the sound. What is this? How can I fix it? Is it easy to fix?
