Rid antivirusgold screen on desktop

Antivirusgold has taken over my desktop screen which links to their web site. I have tried to blow away the software, but still have the desktop screen domination.
Help is needed. Can anyone address is problem? Do I need to do anything with the registery?
Plese respond. I am getting flustraed.
