Saving emails

Can anyone tell me where emails are actually stored on windows 98 and windows xp. I have been trying to find them in explorer to save them to disc or pass them to other computers but I have no idea where to start looking.

We have just set up a small network and are trying to solve the problem of the incoming emails being on the wrong computer.

Can anyone help?
