sharing office documents through Exchange 2003 public folders

Hi all, could anyone ley me know if it is possible to use an exchange 2003 public folders to share office documents. We have some remote useers using webmail and would like to amend and view documents stored centraly using webmail. is it possible to save these files in a public folder and have the remote users view and amend using webmail?
