Source offsite .sos file corruption

For the second time this month my bosses database1.sos file got corrupted. Does anyone know what the issue could be? He thinks that upgrading to NTFS would be more stable. I’m just really confused and I don’t know what would cause that. Sorry I don’t have very many point I’m trying.
