SQl Merge replication

Why does merge replication reapply the snapshot to a subscriber who loses connection? The Publisher creates a new snapshot on Saturdays only. Even so it will try to reapply a snapshot in the middle of the week. Understand there have been no structure changes(Tables,Views, or Stored Proceduers. Help because it really slows performance when it does this.
