Starbucks coupon gets out of hand when forwarded by e-mail

Interesting story today comes from Seattle. During a coffee run this morning, my co-workers and I noticed a peculiar sign on the cash register of Starbucks. It read something to the effect of “Starbucks email coupon will not be honored due to severe email distribution.”

Here’s the article, courtesy of the Seattle Times: http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/businesstechnology/2003236878_starbucks31.html

In my opinion, Starbucks got off lucky. They will get some media attention, but in this case the email that got forwarded didn’t contain any sensitive information… We focus so much on controlling what comes into our inbox, that its easy to forget about the necessity of outbound email security.
