Is there a tool or technique for allowing (or forcing) the archive settings of a given Outlook folder to apply to all the related folders spawned beneath it?
When we’ve configured auto-archiving, we point to individual PSTs located on a home directory server for most problem users and this works fine. However, by the time a new user’s mailbox becomes a storage problem, the user has also created a multi-level folder structure consisting of gobs of sub-folders. Manually configuring archive settings for each sub-folder times 40 – 100 (times each new user) is extremely time consuming. I could instruct the users to do this themselves but I’d rather be able to manage this centrally.
I’m running a single Exchange 5.5 server (SP4) on an NT4 domain with an installed base of 200 users all using Outlook 2000.
I’ve been scouring Technet, Slipstick & TechRepublic without finding much specific help. Mailbox Manager looked interesting until I realized it only deals with message retention & deletion, not necessarily redirection to a .PST archive.
I’m looking for either a tool or technique to force the application of autoarchiving settings from a top folder on down, much like a file system would do.
If it makes any difference, in the next 6 months we will upgrade to Win2003 AD, Exchange 2003 & Office 2003 across the company. I’m hopeful that I’ll discover some new user management tools with Exchange2003 but I’m have yet to find one such as this.
