Transfer of URLs in Excel 2003 Mail Merge

Please forgive me if this was already posted elsewhere. I have a user who is trying to perform a mail merge. She has Excel spreadsheet items going into individual e-mails. This she can do. However, some of the spreadsheet items contain both URLs and e-mail addresses. The links for e-mail addresses will transfer, but the URL links are inactive. Is there any way to get these to transfer to the e-mail messages as well? This is all being done using Office 2003.
